Picnics

Picnics are a popular way to enjoy a beautiful day and spend time with others. A typical picnic involves eating a meal outdoors with friends or family, ideally taking place in a scenic spot.

Picnics are often family-oriented, however they can also be an occasion between just two people, or a large get-together such as a church picnic.

During picnics, two important things to remember are to bring along a picnic basket and a blanket. Outdoor games or some other form of fun are also common at picnics. If it is sunny outside, you should bring sunscreen so you do not get sunburned.

Also, there are sometimes annoying bugs and mosquitoes, depending where you are, so to be safe you should also bring bug spray. It is difficult to avoid bugs completely when you’re outdoors, but you can eliminate most of them with certain precautions. Silverware, napkins, plates, and glasses are other necessities, and perhaps most importantly, do not forget to bring the food!

Depending on the number of people at the picnic, you will need to determine the amount of supplies to bring.

Since picnics take place outside, you should be careful not to get soil on your clothes while running around having all that fun!

One other precaution you should take when you are having a picnic in rural area, is to watch for plants or flowers that may be poisonous. If you are in doubt then do not take any chances.

Avoiding those plants and announcing to others the possible danger would be the right choice to make. You may want to bring some kind of soothing powder for rashes just in case you get an allergic reaction from plants or flowers.

The term “picnic” first originated to mean a potluck, a gathering at which each person contributed some kind of food to a common table for everyone to share. The first use of the word dates back to a 16th century French book, describing a group of people dining in a restaurant who brought their own wine.

Luckily the concept of picnics has remained popular to this day.

– 6 –

If you have never been on a picnic, you should definitely go whenever you get the chance. Where else do you get the chance to eat, play games, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with friends and family all at once? If you doubt that it will be fun, just ask anyone who has been on a picnic before, or go on one for yourself!
